VirtualScape 1.070 available

You mean design the map in VS, duplicate the build on TTS and screenshot it? Yeah, that sounds like a decent workaround. Thanks!

I recently got a new PC, re-downloaded Virtualscape in English and am encountering a couple of the same issues - the program is in French and it crashes when I attempt to render. The French thing I can live with as it gives me a chance to exercise my old high school French skills, but not being able to render is a bummer - sharing maps on Heroscapers is a lot less fun without pictures.
Search for the `.ini` file and post the contents here. I'm not sure about the rendering issue, but I might be able to help with the French bit.

I appreciate it caps, but this Luddite will need more hand holding than that. What exactly should I be searching my computer for, Virtualscape.ini ? Then what?

I would say go to the folder where VirtualScape is installed and search for nothing but:

.ini

I think only one file will come up (I don't remember the exact name; I'm on my phone right now).

Then just post the contents of that file here

Mine's called "VirtualScape.ini" FWIW, though it's an older download. But I doubt that particular file would have changed.

Mine's 383 lines long. The only thing I see about language is this line in the "[Game]" section:
Code:
GameLanguage=Francais, English

Dunno if that helps, but that's what I got. :)

Okay, this is what I get when opening up Virtualscape.ini

Spoiler Alert!

What happens if you shut down VS, replace
Code:
GameLanguage=Francais, English
with
Code:
GameLanguage=English
and restart VS?

I'm also curious if deleting these sections entirely
Code:
[Shadowing]
DisplayShadow=1
Quality=3
Contrast=6
[Photo]
Quality=5
Luminosity=21
DepthField=0
DepthFieldAperture=8
DepthFieldDistance=40
DepthFieldQuality=3
[3D]
DisplayTable=1
BackgroundColor=16744576
TextureType=0
AlternativeMove=0
AnaglyphiqueMode=2
[2D]
BackgroundColor=16777215
Unit=0
Code:
[Video]
FrameCount=3000
FileName=D:\Test
HighQuality=1
FirstFrame=1
LastFrame=3000
would fix your rendering issues. That's a total shot in the dark, though.

Okay, I saved the change, restarted my computer and opened VS, but it's still in French. Thanks for trying.

How are you opening the VS system up? I've noticed before that if I try to open it from Pinned Taskbar or Desktop it comes up as French. But if I pull it up from inside the Folder itself it's not French.

I was going to suggest that as well. If I open it straight from the downloaded folder it works fine. It I move and open it it it's always in French.

Excellent!

I updated my snow files so that you can set brightness in VS to the highest value and get quality TT pictures. I also updated all of my level 0 tiles (most namely the ice and snow to add the sparkles we all love). Here's a preview of the old vs. the new:

You can find all of the files here.

Stumbling my way thru VirtualScape again (reacquainting after nearly a decade of not using it regularly). Have the latest version.

Issue I'm having is when I try to render a high quality pic, it all goes black. I'm guessing this isn't a new issue, but I can't search the thread.

Any fixes out there?

This is a known problem, with no known fix: newer low-level graphics cards cannot handle the shadowing. If you have a better graphics card it can handle it just fine. I have to force my VS to run on a high-performance graphics setting on my work desktop to get high-quality images (running Windows 11 on an AMD Radeon RX 6500 graphics card). I am unable to get high-quality images on my laptop (running Windows 10 I think).

Hey, I'd like to download virtualscape. I haven't used the software in over a decade. Can someone point me in the direction of the files to download/install?

Interesting. When I made a map on Windows 10, it worked fine, then when I was forced to take the Windows 11 update, it stopped working. My laptop in general has been performing poorly since the forced update.
