Upcoming Renegade Releases

The math never mathed for getting things from Renegade directly. I assumed all of you buying from them direct just liked paying more or something (or were going for prepainted, where I understand direct from Renegade is the only option, but then you're likely independently wealthy anyway if you can afford all that :p ).
Any talk of inflated prices should be based on the secondary market only, imo, since if you're buying unpainted directly from Renegade, that's an unforced error on your part.

Yeah, this is for prepainted. I only started doing Atomic Empire because they offered it. I would buy unpainted, but I simply don't have the dexterity for model painting, and commissioning someone to paint them for me winds up being even more expensive than just getting the prepainted directly.

Yep, 100%. I bought most of the April releases from Atomic Empire who has both lower prices for the product and significantly cheaper shipping. Just for Imperator Kayne by himself, compare the prices:

Atomic Empire: $27.99 + $6.75 shipping = $34.74
Renegade: $35.00 $40.00 + $12.96 shipping = $52.96

Which means I'm paying almost twenty bucks basically just to get earlier shipping and that Revna dice pack. The math ain't mathing to continue getting stuff from Renegade directly.

EDIT: Also, I would love to have a Revna dice pack that matched the old flagbearer dice, but this simply isn't it. Only 10 dice, no pouch for them, no Revna symbol... considering the last preorder bonus was Major Q11, this one just isn't up to snuff.
Here some edits to your math for my location...
Atomic Empire
  • Subtotal: $27.99
    • Imperator Kayne Army Expansion (Premium Painted Edition): $27.99
  • Shipping: $12.52 (Two-Day Shipping)
  • Sales tax: $1.68
  • Total: $42.19
Renegade
  • Subtotal: $35.00
    • Imperator Kayne Army Expansion Painted PRE-ORDER: $35.00
    • Revna Dice Pack: $0.00
  • Shipping: $19.05 (Standard Shipping)
  • Tax: $2.10
  • Grand total: $56.15
Renegade shipping is a slower shipping at a higher cost and you paying more on Tax for free Revena Dice (9 D6) that IMHO is not as good as the OG General dice where you get 12 D6 and a D20 to match the respective General's colors. And if Renegade keeps to their word about promos be available down the road, you can get the Revena Dice with another order at a discounted price and possible free shipping.

I think folks may have to adjust to the idea that in 2025 painted minis are for painting enthusiasts and folks with huge amounts of expendable income and that the rest of us can still play with unpainted minis and enjoy them just fine.

Yep and why is it surprising that it costs more to buy direct from the publisher? Same goes for just about any board game, always has. Buy from the publisher, you pay MSRP, buy from an online retailer like Miniature Market, you're getting 20% or more off in most cases. This isn't new.

I'm lucky that my local game store has the painted mini and charge below msrp. For a 5 pack of figures the extra 20$ is worth my time, but I understand those that rather have the cash. When my kids are older, I would likely go unpainted, since I can do a much better job.

I figured I'd post this as well since it came up. MSRP was $20 for the dice according to the retailer FAQ's section. That may have been removed or increased since, though I haven't checked and was about a month ago.

And I feel like him saying 'while supplies last' is kinda trying to make people feel FOMO at this point. He doesn't have to say every time it is asked about, which he tends to do.

Because for a lot of people who didn't look around, it was implied a while back that the only place you could be prepainted was from Renegade. They never said the sold to other retailers. It wasn't until recently where than can of worms was opened and people began to discover they could get Prepainted from else where.

And that still doesn't cover why their shipping costs is so much. It also still does not cover why Q11 was cheaper than Hellforge. And Shiori, Breech, and Alexander are being sold for $20 each. All painted. And now the MSRP for the dice is also $20.

If I had to guess, you are paying for their shipping department not the shipping itself. Renagade core business is distribution to retailers not to customers. It is likely the shipping to customers is an afterthought and instead of thinking of it as a boon, they are throwing direct to customers under the bus by charging what they think it costs to run their department.

I bet the shipping department "charges" the supply department for shipping to justify their budget. So bothe the shipping dept and sales dept look like they are in the green, when the client is getting ripped off.

This all well and good. Until they start sending out product a month ahead of release.. only them tho, not any other retailer. and then going against their release date for legality. Promos you get only if you order through them, and in the face of those decisions screwing some players… all to get people to pay 20 more buck a box… I’ve been on renegades side but 700 for an arc that I HAVE to buy from them to be able to play at gencon, which is before their release date… I mean, cmon.

This isn’t the only issue.. they just don’t seem to care. I’m a warden and I got in touch with them about there being store champs all on the same date in the same state to where we had three events on one Saturday and was told “we’re not changing the hour time frame for travel because many players aren’t gonna travel as far” even with me telling her that there were gonna be certain events with zero turnout. Not low, zero. Still did not care. How hard is it to schedule 7 events on different Saturdays? Like .. that’s not even a hard thing and to me walks among common sense… why would a store continue to support the game when they have zero turnout at a premiere event?

Why are we accepting bears for a year and a half when all they had to do was play the game to know the master set had awful balance? Why change rules to a longstanding meta? This isn’t their game regardless of who owns a piece of paper it’s our game.

And those crabs have zero business being in a Heroscape board. They are dolar store level minis .. that they want 30 bucks a pop for.

Lava terrain set? Do they play the game at all? Who asked for 24hex lava? Why do we need it? Answer is we do not.. ever. There has never been a good board with that much lava. Anyone who actually plays Heroscape can tell you that. Stinks of grok rider to me.. zero play testing whatsoever. One single hex lava tile? Thank god we can buy 8 squads of crabs (and somehow play all 8) then we’ll have what the lava pack should be.

I get I’m being overly negative.. but I’m upset I paid like 1500 dollars for this AOA stuff and put up with the crap meta for so long only to still be told I need to give more. Now idk whether to continue giving them the benefit of doubt or to just focus on VC. Recent VC reveals absolutely blow all AoA design out of the water. Not even comparable really it’s such a profound difference.

I think it would behove renegade to reveal some stuff if they got it..they keep talking about plans for 2027… let us know some of what’s coming before August so we can decide wether we wanna buy or not. I’m not til I see more. Arc 4 ain’t it…
So I've been beating that drum for months over on the HS discord, which now appears to be run by Renegade -- no dissent allowed, it's a happy place with rainbows, unicorns and fairy dust. The Renegade attitude is best summed up by a post from Lee Houff on April 25 -- "I'm happy to have HS as a living game again". I've got news for you Lee, the game never died. The community kept it alive.
Renegade has come along and dictated to the community with new rules (many of which make no sense) and OP that just sucks.
Well the community is still alive, and many of us are refusing to bend the knee to Renegade's diktats. We'll run our events with Hasbro rules, 3d prints allowed. Classic allowed. VC allowed in some events. Delta points, not Renegade points. A few fan boys have caved in and suck up to Renegade for some inexplicable reason, but many of us have not.
The warden program is a joke -- it's an attempt to get more tourney organizers to fall in line. Store championships are now charging as much as $30 to attend --why -- because they can. You get a $1 set of yellow plastic order markers and a chance to win a differently painted figure that most people have already purchased. Costs going up, but play experience going down.

I appreciate hearing different perspectives, but I've got a couple of questions; primarily, what new rules are you referring to? The 10 figures that had their points adjusted? Where have you seen SC's charging $30? I only see one even listed on the Battle Network at this time, and it's charging $25. I believe my local one at the beginning of June is still set at $15, but it might have bumped to $20 (seems like everything is going up $5, lol). I'm not a fan of their tournament software at all. We've had issues with it almost every month, but the only store in our area that has space to host games wants to do everything through Renegade, so that's that.

Lastly, take a moment to consider your message, please. There are plenty of us who've taken part in 'NewScape' that still have our (unreasonably full!) collections of classic and play both together, multiple times per week. Calling us "fanboys" for taking part does nothing to serve the conversation. We all love the same game.

Have a good one, and keep 'Scaping!

Mass store champ $30. There are certain people (they know who they are) who I am referring to as fanboys. You're not one of them.
Some of the new rules have been changed back (after 6 months) Mimring's magical firing line for one. I believe the biggest rule change still in effect is double space figures (e.g. Q9, Nilf, Braxas) being able to flip back and forth during their attack. This allows the double space figure to potentially target more figures by flipping. There are other minor rule changes but most are now just that, minor. The point is that changes were made by Renegade staff with no HS experience right before GC last year. Just goes along with everything else that NorseLegend said and that I have pointed out.

Oh man, I did not know any stores were offering pre-painted. I will be ordering from Atomic Empire in the future.

Any other stores offering Heroscaper pre-painted?

There are a couple, but I do not who the others. Atomic Empire is the one I found by chance and have been telling people about them. But there are other places.

Doesn't help in the states, but both 401 games and boardgamebliss in Canada offer painted. Same MSRP as us, but in Canadian dollars which is 70 cents on the dollar so 30% cheaper.

Doesn't help anyone outside my area, but one of our local stores in Chicago is ONLY carrying the prepainted. So maybe check all the stores in your area and see if any of them would order them for you...

Who is Jordan?

Are these shirts just for Championship event or do all Gen Con events get the shirt like they did last year? There is nothing listed in the Canva document about shirts.

Information is lacking since Sunday's event FUBAR. They pulled all the placeholder events and are waiting for the updates to be posted by next Sunday.

Why is Loviatak attacking Utgar?
As said, there is basically a Civil War going on in Utgar's faction. This has been explored in Lovi's Bio and in the 6th Online Scenario. She disagree with what Utgar is doing and doesn't like how single minded and overextending he has become. She actually stopped the poisoning of Jandar's Wellspring because it wasn't something she thought was honorable. And plans to use the poison on Utgar himself or the other Bleakwood kyrie and reform Utgar's armies into a more powerful enemy after unshackling from the failures of the past.

While not confirmed, it is possible and hinted at that there might be a Raid Styles Scenario made for Gencon, which might be August's monthly Scenario that could have Utgar as the boss in a way similar to the rust bots in the Online Scenario 7. However this is not confirmed, but there has been some reasons to think it.

D-Day. Easy to remember.
