Today in HeroScape!

It’s the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. What’s your favorite HeroScape map scenario where the environment fights back against the armed and warring HeroScape units?

Butch Cassidy was killed in a shootout in Bolivia on this day in 1908. Recreate the battle in HeroScape using lots of jungle trees. Who will proxy Butch and Sundance? Who will play the Bolivian soldiers?

National Parents as Teachers Day: HeroScape is a great game to teach your kids! They learn so much reading the cards, figuring out the powers, and trying to beat dad’s army.

I still play with my youngest (19), but he’s much harder to beat these days.

It’s “Go to an Art Museum Day”. Let’s make our own HeroScape Art Museum online so we don’t have to go anywhere! Post your favorite piece of HeroScape art. It can be fan art, photoshop, repaints, cool HeroScape photography (thinking PoV battle scenes), or official art.

My art gallery contributions are this shot from The Sunken Crypt (scenario, link in sig):

And my wife’s HeroScape cake and chocolates:

C3G's Galactus would love a battlefield made from those chocolates. Just add "then eat it" after the choices on World Eater.

It’s Remembrance Sunday, which honors the brave soldiers that sacrificed their lives for our freedom. I don’t want to take away from the solemn nature of the occasion, but I can’t help thinking that most of the warriors summoned to Valhalla would be mourned and honored as heroes lost in battle on whatever world they were plucked from. Would be interesting if the lore touched on the memorials for the fallen on, say, Alpha Prime or Feylund.

Australian outlaw Ned Kelly was executed on this day in 1880. He made a last stand in a suit of homemade armor. He’s like an old west supervillain but on the wrong continent - a mashup from the start. He’d be a great fit for HeroScape! What other weird characters from history would you like to see in HeroScape?

It’s American Fancy Rat & Mouse Day. You’re supposed to dress up your pet rodents or something, but Deathreavers come in costume and have them all beat! Field as many Deathreaver units as possible today.

On this day in 1940, Disney’s “Fantasia” premiered. The movie is chock-full of visual fantasy elements, backgrounds, etc. Which element of Fantasia would you like to see in HeroScape?

Fantasia is one of my favorite old Disney movies. Of course we need hoards of marching brooms throwing water on their opponents and Chernobog as a stationary hero (like the marro hive) that controls and rebirths undead.

A common squad of magic brooms with buckets of water would be a lot of fun.

I'm painting up my minifigs from the Kingdom Hearts Edition of Talisman and designing army cards so I can play as Donald, Goofy and Mickey in their KH incarnations.
An official crossover would be truly incredible.

The book “Treasure Island” was published on this day in 1883; it’s the quintessential piece of pirate literature. Celebrate by playing a pirate scenario.

It’s “I Love to Write” Day. Write something about HeroScape - a blog post, a fanfic, or the background for a custom unit. What is your favorite piece of HeroScape writing?

It’s Guinness World Records Day: What’s the longest game of HeroScape you’ve played? Any other HeroScape records worth noting?

National Hiking Day - get out in nature and find a beautiful trail to hike. Then go home and make a HeroScape map based on it! (I plan to do this myself; I will be basing some maps/scenarios on great places I visited in Australia.)

It’s National Princess Day. HeroScape has an elven princess, Kyntela Gwyn! (And she even survived the last game I played her in!) What other princesses would you like to see in HeroScape?

It’s National Entrepreneur’s Day. We wouldn’t have the HeroScape revival without Renegade Game Studios, which was founded by Scott Gaeta, a true entrepreneur. There may be other (and more important) entrepreneur’s in the history of HeroScape, but I’m highlighting Scott because I was a customer at his game store in Parker, Colorado more than 20 years ago! It was a small, but very welcoming, shop that sold comics and specialized in the original Star Wars CCG. I wasn’t really into that game, but I lived in Parker at the time, bought comics, and ran RPG events at his store. Scott Gaeta also ran a mail order poster business (booming thanks to the early Internet) out of the back of the game store. He turned his success promoting the Star Wars CCG into a job at Decipher and that eventually led to starting his own game company. (FYI: I don’t think I’ve talked to Scott Gaeta since I moved from Parker to Colorado Springs in 2002, so I definitely can’t get any inside info on Australian or European shipping problems. Sorry.)

It’s National Pay Back Your Parents Day. If your parents bought you HeroScape when you were a kid and you held on to it through today… well you probably can’t afford to pay them back the current value of your collection! But call them and say ‘thanks’. Trust me, they’ll be thrilled!

It’s World Philosophy Day. Which HeroScape characters/generals best embody the most interesting philosophy (even if you don’t adhere to it)?

Toy Story was released on this day in 1995. If the HeroScape toys replaced those characters, who would be the delusion Buzz Lightyear type (probably one of the new Renegade heros?) and who would be the room captain like Woody?

Trying to stay "old school"
Delusional: maybe - Major X17 (I could see him saying "I am Major X17 of Star Command")
Room captain: Sgt Drake Alexander

Doctor Who premiered on this day in 1963. What Doctor Who monster would you like to see as a common squad or common hero? (Post pics and descriptions for the non-Whovians, please.)
