Um, are you confused about the premise of my ‘Today in HeroScape’ posts? If you want to make a post in this thread relating Bicycle Day to HeroScape, you don’t need my permission. I’d be interested to see what you come up with!
I usually plan ahead about two weeks and figure out which nonsense holiday or historical event I want to springboard off of. I do see most of these other holidays on the site I use, but I usually just pick the one that I have the best idea for (I’ve been known to combine a few).
Sometimes people will tell me about something coming up that they don’t want me to miss and I’ll make sure to work it in (that usually happens on Discord). But just saying, “Today is such in such, what have you got?” isn’t part of the deal, mostly because I probably won’t see it until the next morning. Which, again, is why I am very happy to share the concept with the community and welcome anyone else posting their ‘Today in HeroScape’ takes in this thread or under the same banner on Discord.
Likewise, if anyone else wants to take up your Bicycle Day challenge, they are more than welcome, as far as I’m concerned.
I started this out of my excitement for the relaunch of the official game (it never died, check out the Customs community section!) and because my computer told me it was World Primate Day (love those Gorillinators). I thought this would keep me writing something daily (a personal goal) and would be a good way to celebrate the first year of the relaunch.

Sorry. I was being facetious. I was thinking of mentioning that we don’t have motorcycles either, except in C3G. But really I was saying that there is no possible connection between bicycles and Heroscape.

Just a note that on July 4th, I watch the musical 1776 every year. I live only 20 minutes from the site of the Battle of Brooklyn, (some misguided folks call it The Battle of Long Island) which was fought that year, after the new Declaration of Independence was read out to the troops. The scene in the show, which I saw live on Broadway many years ago, where a dispatch comes in from General Washington describing the conditions just before the battle, is chilling. After he lost the battle, he saved the army by retreating from the waterfront, which is only five minutes from where I live!
Besides watching a reenactment of the battle nearby in Prospect Park, one other year reenactors from the Marblehead Regiment (MA), which was the Continental Army's "rowboat navy," appeared on the Fulton Ferry Landing, right near the Brooklyn Bridge, and told the story of how they carried out the retreat across the East River to Manhattan, which saved the army.
On another year I carried the flag of the First Pennsylvania Continentals, the rifle regiment that was the first in and last out of the battle, up Battle Hill in Greenwood Cemetary with many other flag bearers, where the other part of the battle was fought.
You can play out these two parts of the battle in two scenarios with the board game Commands & Colors: The American Revolution.

On this date in 1937, Chinese and Japanese forces clashed on the Marco Polo bridge, igniting the second Sino-Japanese war (some would also say this is the overlooked, true start of World War II). Recreate this battle with a cool bridge map and pit Shaolin Monks against an army of Samurai (where going for iconic here, not historically accurate).
