THE BIG 5 C3G CON MAP CONTEST

C3G Members and Fans, in celebration of C3G's 15th anniversary, we're running a contest and we would love for you to join in!

The contest is to create a new C3G Competitive map in time for C3G Con 5 this July.

The goal is to expand the library of C3G Competitive maps with brand new playing fields bursting with theme. We're hoping you can help by building and submitting some maps!

Here are the rules:

1. Anyone on Heroscapers.com can enter

2. The map should use no more than four terrain sets, such as Rise of the Valkyrie, Road to the Forgotten Forest, etc. (these could be in any combination and with multiples of any set). Since I do not yet have it on hand, Source terrain and terrain from the AoA release is not eligible for this year's contest.

3. Each map should have a thematic name that references a named place from comic books and adheres to this year’s theme.

This year’s theme is the “Big Five” of the DC Universe, meaning maps should represent a thematic location associated with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, or Flash, whether that’s the Daily Planet, Joker’s Funhouse, Arkham Asylum, Paradise Island, Coast City, Star Labs, etc., etc. If you’re unsure whether a location meets this thematic criteria, please reach out to me for verification.

4. Each map should specify any destructible objects, hazards, items, or resources it uses in its notes (see the map template here). Destructible objects can use C3G DO cards or just be generic DO’s of a designated Size. No Valhalla glyphs should be used.

5. Maps should specify any special rules.

6. The map should strive for competitive balance and include clearly marked 24 space start zones.

7. Map entries should include their names, a brief map bio, Virtualscape build instructions and a built version for TTS. If an interested contestant needs help putting either of these together, please don’t be discouraged, but reach out in this thread for help!

8. Any DOs, mats, etc. that are not included on VS should be proxied by other terrain (like shadow tiles as a proxy for outer space) or start zone dots, with an explanation of any proxying included in the entry.

9. The deadline for entries will be May 23rd. Any entrant can submit up to 5 maps for consideration.

10. Entries can be sent directly to me or can be posted in this thread.

11. Once the entry period closes, a voting thread will be created in this forum with all maps displayed here and there will be a one week voting period, with anyone who sees it welcome to vote. Ideally voters will keep thematic representation, effective use of terrain sets, and competitive balance in mind when voting for their favorite map.

12. The winner will be invited to run the map as an official C3G public design, using a free design slot. The winner of the contest will have the option to lead this design, with the group’s assistance, or may opt to have me lead it for them.

As an additional sweetener, if you are a public member (i.e. someone without sanctum access) and you *enter* a map into the competition, I will give you a one time gift of 5 points towards a C3G LD from my horde of accumulated points.

Any interest in this one or am I speaking into the void? :p I definitely intend to enter a few myself.

My first entry: GOTHAM CEMETERY

Very cool. Great set combo. Always like the idea of battlements as tombstones.
Not sure about legality but would consider placing a couple flat as if they were knocked over.

Well they're Medium DOs, so if they get thrown and not destroyed, I imagine folks will place them on their sides.

My first entry: Crime Alley

You should get a picture in here. I know it’s a cool map but others need to see it too.

My second entry: Last Days of Krypton

Spoiler Alert!

I had one, it just already expired from Discord or something. Very annoying.

Also, sweet entry, japes! :-D

I'm still tinkering with my last three. About three weeks until the submission deadline so hoping the field keeps growing. Thanks for all who've entered so far or who plan to enter!

Full disclosure...I "commissioned" Eric to create a warehouse map (awhile ago) as a callback to the maps KidA and I made early on before we had official terrain where we basically had a base map with crates, barrels, and shipping containers and just called it a warehouse and we'd battle. So I took the base of what he had and condensed it down to minimal sets and rethemed it a bit. So a lot of the props go to Eric but he gave me permission to tweak and submit as my own :D

Curious @IAmBatman, why did you go with swamp and grass instead of snow and ice? Everything I have seen has Krypton being mostly crystalline, especially the movies.

I associate the planet, especially in its dying phase, with the color green

Just doing ice would make it too much like Fortress of Solitude as well, imo.

Updated LexCorp Facility with the Items and Resources I intend to use. Lots of goodies hidden in those crates.

When LexCorp abandons a facility in a hurry...sometimes valuable things get left behind.

That's a pretty good reason, but we also don't have very many maps that use Ice or Snow. :2cents:

That's because we need to decide how to handle the Ice Rocks and Mountains and such for 2.0 before we can start converting Icy Road and perhaps make a new better Fortress of Solitude.

I love the look of the Tundra set and printed out a second set so once we get it all worked out I'll look to use it for sure.

I find the ice/snow sets hard to maximize with their lack of 24 hexers. That said, I highly encourage you to enter an ice/snow map in the contest @Spidey'tilIDie
