The Book of Saylind the Kyrie Warrior

I think it's in the OP of this book, but anyway, from the FAQ:

Saylind
“Jandar’s Oath”
When Saylind uses her Spear of Summoning to move a figure with a special power like Carry that says “Before moving”, can that power on the moved card take effect?
No, the note of “Before moving” on powers like Carry refers to the normal movement of the figure.

It's not a contradiction of the army cards, just a clarification of the intent of this particular special power.

A strategy to take note of when it comes to using Saylind. She can be effective in this build at breaking bonding armies:
Werwolf Lord x1- 140
Saylind- 80
Wolves of Badru x2
Raelin 2.0- 120
500 points, 10 hexes.

Lead with the Wolves, putting the Lord at the front. Keep Saylind back. Raelin tails them until they get in range of the opponents scouts and/or ranged forces. When that happens, get the Werewolf Lord to some cover, and move the Badru to height, backed by Raelin. Spread them out so they can engage more forces. When the hopefully slow enemy (Knights, Romans, Heavy Gruts) comes forward, with their bonding option behind them, attack with the Wolves, Pouncing with 2, attacking normally with 1. Make sure you engage a single wolf to at least 2 enemy figures. Try to keep them near Raelin, but don't endanger your Cheerleader. Once the enemy forces move to engage your Wolves, (bear in mind you're keeping one squad back), flank the enemy with the Lord. If you're fighting an army that utilizes an enhancement from the bonding option, like the Knights with Gilbert, or if you're fighting an army that bonds with a ranged beatstick, like Greenscales with Nilfhiem, chances are the bonding hero is behind the enemy squads, which are engaged with the Wolves. Anyway, flank the Hero with the Lord, hopefully infecting it. Plan your OM's carefully so that either the Wolves have engaged enough Squad figures to give the Lord 2 turns to infect, or Saylind has the next OM after your infection. Summon the Lord out of the fray, and alternate your OM's between Wolves and Lord. Fall back with the Wolves, while the Lord keeps the enemy occupied by turning their Hero against them. Keep the Wolves with Raelin, and on height at all costs. If the enemy comes after the Wolves, engage with Raelin (you heard me right), and Whirlwind their behinds. Only engage for a single turn, pull back quick. Use the Wolves to cover her retreat, as she did the Wolves. Rinse and repeat, if you're lucky. If you can pull this off right, you've broken the bonding army, and totally messed with your opponent. All made possible by Spear of Summoning.

That is a great strategy breakdown SoA. I love it when people give thought to how to use underused characters. I want to use Saylind more, but the biggest problem with her is that her summoning isn't guaranteed. It can be such a waste of an order marker to use her. She would be so, so much better if her summoning was a given, or if you could turn it into a given if you chose not to move or attack that turn. It would allow strategies like this and others with her to really be effective and fun to play. As it is, the risk of giving up turns with her is too great.

As she is though, I think the only safe way to use her is to rush her out and attack with her while you try to summon a slow moving heavy hitter, preferably a multi-attacking heavy hitter. That way, if you miss on the summon, at least you are not completely wasting a turn with her.

Fully agree here. It does not even need to be guaranteed to make her more worthwhile, just a much higher rate of success.

Sometimes, I'd rather that she does for kyries what Emiroon does for the elves. That would have given her more playing time.

I agree, but sometimes getting that powerful double spaced figure (Q9 or Q10 for example) onto high ground is very helpful :)

Saylind doesn't have Atlaga's Movement Bonus listed under her Synergies. I would Assume that she Does benefit from it, and that you just forgot?
If so, Make sure you add it;)

A great combination that I've found with Saylind is pairing her, Kelda, Raelin, and a higher life heavy hitter...maybe Charos or something. A rat screen would be nice too...so long as you have space for Saylind to summon someone. Send in the heavy hitter, then have Saylind summon the guy back to be healed by Kelda and protected by Raelin. This strategy has worked for me before...although if the guy dies before you summon him back, you're a dead man.

This is a good strategy in theory, but it's pretty difficult to execute consistently.

The most obvious burden is the d20, which is great for healing, but not as good odds on Spear of Summoning. That 40% chance of failure is why I mostly shifted to Theracus a while back. And don't forget, when Kelda's healing roll goes bad, it goes really bad.

The other major complication lies in having a good match-up. If your opponent has a few of any decent common squad, then you're probably in for a tough time. Of course, a screen helps (hope you like rats!), and there are a handful of bad@$$ heroes capable of taking on squads, given the right conditions. Nilfy, Braxas, the Majors, and Moltenclaw come to mind. Maybe even Krug or a Fen Hydra if there's no range to worry about.

The last bit is the OM management. You've got quite a few army cards to manage at this point (if you're running a screen, it's at least five cards now), but after the first round or so it should be fine.

Rhogar's a much better healer in my mind. He may not clear as many wounds off your hero in one turn, but there's no risk of him accidentally killing anyone. Still...he does tie up order markers.

Of course, a great addition to the strategy is Red Skull, if you're allowed to use him. He stops the OM management problem.

C3V and SoV Custom Synergies
Spoiler Alert!

I'm curious about the potential of Saylind coming up with the Renegade Wave 2 Kyrie Mielki and Xiamara. Does the Ullar Kyrie army have stock?

Kind of does, but I envision it mostly as Xiamara, Atlaga, and 3x Protectors for the Ullar Kyrie list. I feel like Mielki and Saylind are less likely to be in themed lists and more likely to combo with something else, like Mielki healing sturdy heroes or Saylind bringing a big slow hero to high ground.
