superfrog's maps -- Cucumber 6/10

Re: superfrog's maps -- Phalanx and Slalom 5/4/22

Blackberry build instructions. It uses 2 M:tCB and 2 RttFF.

Thanks to @MegaSilver for the set combo request and @GameBear for suggesting some helpful tweaks.

I really look forward to trying this one.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Blackberry 8/18/22

I JUST realized I took the photo at the same angle as the VS version, and it was completely accidental!

Re: superfrog's maps -- Blackberry 8/18/22

Here's a challenge for you: 2xMtCB, 1xFotA, 1xVW

Re: superfrog's maps -- Blackberry 8/18/22

Okay, caps, here it is. I'm calling it Areopagus.

Areopagus build instructions. It uses 2 M:tCB, 1 VW, and 1 FotA, with 2 random glyphs.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Blackberry 8/18 and Areopagus 8/31

Three new maps to put in the OP here:

First is Wingspan, with a new center that Flash and I workshopped in response to some momentum concerns by OEAO. There's a few other changes like shifting the shadow and bringing the glyphs in, but by and large it's the same map.

Next is Throughline which was built in response to a request from Matthias Maccabeus. I don't often work with such a small terrain requirement, so this was a fun one to figure out how to do in a superfrog style.

Last is Succession, my second entry into the ScapeCon III map contest. Somewhat similar to Slalom but I think it has its own flair.

Wingspan build instructions. It uses 1 SotM, 1 BftU, and 1 TJ, with 2 random glyphs.

Succession build instructions. It uses 2 M:tCB, 1 TT, and 1 TJ, with 2 random glyphs.

Open to feedback on any of these as always :)

Re: superfrog's maps -- Blackberry 8/18 and Areopagus 8/31

After editing Wingspan yesterday I decided to see if I could pull off a 2 BftU version of Wingspan. I think I succeeded, I'm calling it Canary:

Canary build instructions. It uses 2 BftU and 1 TJ, with 2 random glyphs.

This looks like a real winner to me! One of the best 2xBftU 1xTJ maps I've ever seen. May even prefer it to my Borogoves. :D

Re: superfrog's maps -- 3.5 new maps October 2022

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere and I missed it but can you please post the updated build instructions for Calida? :D

Canary looks gorgeous, @superfrog, and I really enjoyed my game on it.

Given how flat — and protected — it is through the center, rushing your melee units straight down the middle to sack ranged opponents in their SZ is more than viable, and a lot of fun.

I want to get some more games on it with other units, but so far I really like it. :D

Re: superfrog's maps -- 3.5 new maps October 2022

Made a slight update to Canary.

I raised one level 1 space around the glyph area to level 2, and rearranged some shadow slightly. This required stealing 2 hexes from the SZ which have been replaced by water.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Canary Updated 2/8

Also a slight update to Blackberry.

Got 4 road hexes raised to level 2, which makes the 7-hex off to the left of the SZ a little less commanding of a position.

I'm digging Canary, this new version especially! :toast:
Here are two shots of it, built with my custom terrain.

Calida build instructions. It uses 1 RotV, 1 RttFF, and 1 VW, with 2 random glyphs.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Canary and Blackberry Updated

The name sounds familiar. Is that a new map?

Re: Superfrog's Maps -- Calida added 11/1!

New map!

@caps there have been several versions of this map going back to 2014. This latest one I actually reworked heavily last fall for an OHS event but never posted to my thread.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Clear Cut and Hot Zones 4/27

2 new maps today:

Clear Cut build instructions. It uses 1 RotV, 1 BftU, and 1 RttFF, with 2 random glyphs and 2 treasure glyphs.

Hot Zones build instructions. It uses 1 RotV, 1 BftU, and 1 VW, with 2 Wannoks and 2 optional Dagmars.

Obviously the second one is super ambitious, and I haven't had a chance to play on it to see how it works in practice. For a safer take on the same concept you could switch the 3-hex start zones to give a clean split between the two sides (although then you want to take Dagmar away probably). Maybe switch the 2-hex start zones back for a little more flavor if you want to go halfway.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Clear Cut and Hot Zones 4/27

I quite like Clear Cut! The distribution of height is intriguing because it's so lateral...but it seems to work here.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Clear Cut and Hot Zones 4/27

Hot Zones reminds me a lot of Capuan Arena. Sort of like a half Heat of the Battle as a board. I don't know if I'd ever put either a standard tournament pool, because both can so thoroughly punish pod armies in a way they aren't punished on any other board, but they're cool. It could be fun to do a tournament made entirely of these sorts of maps.

Clear Cut most closely reminds me of Turmoil, but the height is set up so differently so it's hard to review. Looks pretty though.

Re: superfrog's maps -- Clear Cut and Hot Zones 4/27

Yeah I designed Hot Zones for the upcoming MARS event where all the maps will be this massive crazy split type thing.

You can actually pretty much build Clear Cut with the Turmoil sets:
