Games tend to be 3-4 hours. Our longest game went 6 hours, and are shortest has been about 2 hours. So for a Saturday afternoon, on average it's not too bad for people to commit to.

As for game types, YES I do have scenarios...or rather, objective based game types. In fact, that's usually how we play. We do occasionally play "Kill em all", but I've found those games can be drawn out and slower...whereas objective based games with teams really creates a lot of strategy and planning as well as it allows the game to end within a reasonable time frame since the objective tends to be completed before everyone is killed off. Because a lot of the people I play with are mostly friends who are new to HS or from other games like DnD and 40K etc, I tend to keep the objectives pretty simple. I like to keep objectives team based as well: capturing the enemies glyph and returning it to your base...controlling the castle keep...castle defense...team to capture the most artifact glyphs. The last map that looks pretty flat and if you zoom in has zombies....that map we did a custom game type where we did a zombie apocolypse. Basically, (since I've got 5 squads of zombies) it was zombies vs everyone else, and zombies would respawn every round. The key was to kill 20 zombies total as a team and THEN the zombie boss was activated. He then came out, and the objective was to take him down in order to win. So yeah, we have a lot of fun :)

Thanks...that's one of my favorites as well! It was one of the few maps where every facet was used. Sometimes the bigger maps it's hard during game play to use all the fun things you throw in there, but it turned out really well. And yes, hahah, my wife loves to play with me... and a lot of the guys I play with will bring their wives along as well. We've got a really good group up here. And yes, going to school here at BYU-Idaho :)

So our Heroscape game this weekend is Hunger Games (Catching Fire) based...and this is going to be the foundation of the map.

The cardboard is below the 2nd layer and allows us to rotate the top layer...just like in the movie. So it's going to be freaking legit having a moving map!

Thought ya'll would appreciate it cause we found a symmetrical way to build it so that each rotation is the same distance and consistent, and allows it to rotate smoothly. Let me know if you have any questions or anything. I'll have more pictures this weekend of the finished map.

Yeah haha...it freakin took like a long time to make and almost all my terrain....but totally worth it... super fun map

Interesting Mechanic. We used to make huge maps like that. The problem we always ran into was the game took forever. That's why we keep it a little more simple nowadays. EDIT: and I can't rep you again yet.

Yeah we have gotten as many as 9 people per game. Games used to last 4 hours or more... But then I started adding objectives which give a fair alternative to winning the game more often than not our games go longer than three hours because one team tends to complete the objective first. This hunger games battle took us about 2 1/2 hours with eight people because each person literally had one hero and that was it. The game was just like the hunger games...by the end of turn 2 (not round 2, but turn 2) we already had alliances and two people out because of getting jumped on :) me being one of them. 3 to 4 hours for a game is the sweet spot for our players they seem to be very willing to spend that time on a game on there Saturday afternoon but any longer is pushing it.

Have you played Imperial Assault. In the skirmish battles there are victory points for killing enemy figures and completing objectives. Its kind of a cool alternative. Speaking of hunger games, have you seen Heroes of fictions Katniss Everdeen. I made a mod of her using a nakita agent and some greenstuff for her figure here. I have other mods in my mod thread in my signature below by the fighting emojis.

I have not played Imperial Assault. As for the Katniss Mod I thought that was awesome, and very well done. That's one thing I need to get into is using green stuff. Haven't bridged that gap yet....but I really do like a lot of your mods, very well done.

Congrats on your group !!! Looks like you have had some great maps !! Yes I think your hunger games was cool esp the spiny middle. Back when I had the room for it I used to make maps that had other maps connected to it. Say I had a castle tower well once figures moved into the tower I would pull out a side map per floor of said tower nothing giant just a bit of fighting room and room for stuff as well as stairs markers for up and down, was a great way to semi-RPG some maps and help with objectives. Another cool one was a Dragon cave on top of a mountain map main map was like 30 levels high and once you got to the ruins at the top you could enter this huge cave map of the dragons lair ..I used to have 2 4X8 tables just to hold maps ,Oh and Doors !!Doors are great for building maps on due to them being light In my first Scape house I didn't have much room at all so I used doors to hold maps like door one placed on our gaming table would be the getting there map then once players regrouped at the far end I could remove the figures then bring in door number 2 with say the castle on it ..This is a cool thing esp if you do travels with ambushes and limited line of sight..Used to love the Anubian Forest escort missions. Nope since I just moved back to this area and my game room is tiny I only have room for 3 players this time around. But my group used to be 30 players strong.

Yes the city maps are a blast! Here is how one can deal with Urban Height advantage an how to have hexs where there are none ....
