HeroScape Checkers!

HeroScape Checkers (HSC) is a version of checkers you can play on a hex-board with HeroScape figures and a HeroScape scenario with some checkers-based rules. We had a lot of fun making it! Please enjoy and let me know what you think!

This is an interesting idea using a hex grid for checkers. Seems like it works just as well as a square grid. I am curious to try this out.

I like the idea of using double spaced figures for Kings. Kings are more powerful than in regular checkers because they can jump two figures at a time, but they are also more vulnerable because they have two spaces in which they can be jumped.

What was your reasoning for capping Kings to 3? I have never played checkers with a limit on the number of Kings.

Looking at my own, large collection of classic figs, I felt I only had a few double-based squads that I’d want to use (small and distinct enough) and those all had three figs each. Could have made it three at a time and you could replace the ones you lose, but having a hard limit was a simpler rule to explain and follow. Also, once we designed the Master HSC rules, a limit on the number of kings felt more thematically consistent.

And while classic checkers has no limits on kings, how often do you have more than three kings in a game? Probably doesn’t happen much, so probably doesn’t effect gameplay much to have a limit.

Please let me know how it goes if you do try it out!

Thank you for clarifying! That all makes sense.
