Re: A Discussion on Scale in C3G
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. There is a
Mars Attacks Kickstarter going on right now that I'm looking at jumping into. It is a miniatures board game and has some terrain options that look to be the right size for us. I was not initially going to get the broken/ruined walls set as it seems too damaged for us to use as effective LOS blockers. But the latest stretch goal has them offering
undamaged whole brick walls. This link includes a video showing how their terrain (from a different game but using the same process) can be connected and organized into many different layouts, then taken back apart again. Could make for some really cool and versatile city streets boards.
It does appear as though the walls will come in unpainted red plastic. So the brick portion of the walls would be basically done (maybe a quick wash or dry brushing) but doors & windows would require some additional detailing work. I don't know exactly how tall these will be, but the minis used in the game are 28-30mm scale. Also not sure how they will work on a hex board.
If painting terrain does not deter you, it looks like they have several other interesting city objects you could pick up. I really like that Hotdog Stand but personally feel as though $25 for that set of terrain is too much. The $5 set of mailboxes & stop sign is not a bad deal though as is the $5 set of makeshift barriers.
I'm also curious if the non-slip, high quality, 2' x 2' gaming mats would be useful for us but I'm not willing to buy them yet. I wonder how hard it would be to add a hex pattern to them.
Generally speaking the deal you get on these kickstarters are pretty good. So the $25 set of brick walls I am looking at could cost more like $35-$40 or more later on. I have not pledged yet but as I understand it you will not need to pledge the whole game to get the walls or any of the other terrain add-ons. You can just pledge the amount you need for the individual add-ons that you want (I'm also interested in those soldiers figures). If I end up getting anything, I'll be sure to share once they come in (Aug. 2014?) but if they look like a good enough risk to not wait for my review, the Kickstarter ends in 8 days. Oh, and shipping charges are already covered if you live in England or the US so that alone can be some pretty nice savings over waiting and ordering it online a year from now.
