Greetings Heroscapers and Planeswalkers,
I will soon run an Arena of the Planeswalkers tourney over Tabletop Simulator! This is your invitation to come and attempt to slay my burrito-loving anus in a gentleplaneswalkers’ game of AotP, and prove that you are the greatest AotP player of all time! If you have questions about how the games go or look in TTS, please check out my most recent battles in my battle thread (signature!)
Preliminary stuff:
1. Each tournament AotP game will be played over Tabletop Simulator, using the internet/online play offered in this software. This requires a PC, an internet connection, and Tabletop Simulator: https://store.steampowered.com/app/286160/Tabletop_Simulator/
AFAIK, you will need to subscribe to these steam workshops to get the goods you need to play/host a game:
Heroscape maps and such, lots of premade stuff - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2742749663
Figures, spells, and terrain from official AotP sets - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2281553644
2. Players are required to communicate, likely through an internet medium:
First - since I am planning to announce matchups and such at this Discord, YOU MUST JOIN if you want to be kept up on the tourney and see important info. Join the AotP Tourney Discord! - https://discord.gg/4bgtvJ2WF7
Second - to communicate with one another about setting up the date/time that they will play, this communication will ideally be done either publicly in the Discord AotP Central server or in private messages over Discord.
Third - while actually playing AotP, players must participate in Tabletop Simulator text chat at a minimum so they can communicate during the game. We are here to play AotP, stay on this topic and the gameplay at hand IF the other player does not wish to talk about some other given topic.
General rules:
1. Games will be 2-player; 1 versus 1. Victory condition: last player with figures remaining on the map. (Therefore, solely killing the enemy Planeswalker does not grant you a win; all enemy creatures must be removed from the map to win.)
2. Only Arena of the Planeswalkers official cards and figures are legal; this includes the first AotP set “Arena of the Planeswalkers,” the Battle for Zendikar expansion, and the Shadows over Innistrad set. No custom AotP figures, spells, and no Heroscape cards/figures, etc.
3. Refer to this doc for rules clarifications on army cards and spells. Please keep in mind that this doc is a work in progress! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ag2Zgh9GAlMsDMov21qi2-iiz_E9kmlM/view
If you have questions, please ask on the AotP Central Discord!
4. Cheating will not be tolerated. It is understandable that we make mistakes as humans, and it is ok to make an honest mistake because we do not remember all of the rules all of the time, but if somebody continues cheating even after being told to correct mistakes/cheats, please take screenshots or video of the game/events involving that player and contact TD with it. TD will not act on a he-said-she-said accusation; solid proof will help your case! Any players found cheating will, at TD’s discretion, be subject to penalties including but not limited to an automatic loss or disqualification from the tourney.
Army/library rules:
1. Shadows over Innistrad rulebook army/library build rules apply - only one Planeswalker per player, your creatures and spells must match at least one color of your Planeswalker, etc.
2. You may include up to 600 points of army cards in your army, and up to 200 points of spell cards in your library. You MUST have 12 cards (no more, no less) in your library.
3. You must use the same build for the entire tourney. I will publicly distribute/display a doc presenting everyone's submitted builds - the army cards and spell libraries of every participant. All participants are encouraged to review this doc before each of their games to see what their opponent will be fielding in the game.
Are you looking for an AotP army build doc to make your army/spell decisions easier? Please download/make a copy of my EXCELLENT doc here, I've put in lots of hard work to make this very pretty and to make sure it encompasses all relevant information to help you complete your build quickly!

Maps:
FYI glyphs shall be already revealed and power side up before players even roll the D20 for deciding who places their Planeswalker first and goes first. Also, for map tiles and mechanics like shadow spaces, jungle trees, battlements, and these kinds of things which have no strict AotP rules, we will follow Heroscape's rules because in my experience those rules port perfectly over into AotP. While on Heroscape maps, Nahiri cannot use Lithomancy if she is on a water space, a shadow space, or on a space that has a battlement attached to it.
First round
Mountain Spring: https://www.heroscapers.com/c3g/released/maps/C3G-MAP_MountainSpring.pdf
Glyphs: Power +1, Knowledge
Note: Place the Power +1 glyph at the bottom of the mountain in the water. Place the Knowledge glyph on the Dungeon space on level 7.
Second round
Fulcrum: https://www.heroscapers.com/community/downloads.php?do=file&id=1766
No glyphs
Third round
Bad Moon Rising: https://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//ec_tmp/Bad Moon Rising - BoV Map.pdf
Glyphs: Healing, Toughness +1
Fourth round
Sacred Shrine: https://www.heroscapers.com/c3g/released/maps/C3G-MAP_SacredShrine.pdf
Glyphs: Move +2, Knowledge, Recall
Note: Place the Move +2 glyph at the northmost part of the map (toward the edge of the map where there are no start zones.) Knowledge and Recall can be set on either of the other two spaces. Any conflicts between players, roll a D20 to decide which of the two goes where.
Glyph reminders:
Power +1 – Permanent glyph. All figures you control get +1 power.
Toughness +1 – Permanent glyph. All figures you control get +1 toughness.
Move +2 – Permanent glyph. All figures you control get +2 move.
Healing – Permanent glyph. At the start of the occupying figure's controller's turn, remove one damage marker from the figure on the glyph.
Knowledge – Temporary, one-time use glyph. Draw a spell card.
Recall – Temporary, one-time use glyph. Select one spell from your graveyard and put it in your hand.
Sign up link, timing, execution, pizzazz:
1. If we have 6 or fewer participants total, round robin will be the format for the tourney; everyone plays against each player 1 time, one bye for each player if we have an odd number of participants. If we have 7 or more players, we will do 4 rounds of Swiss, each round we post players with the higher W-L records against one another, and on down the line of players. We will avoid having the same players play each other twice in the same tournament when possible. Number of wins will be the primary factor in deciding the tourney winner at the end of the 4 rounds. Byes count as a win.
2. Victory Points (not in AotP rulebook, see spoiler below) will be the tiebreaking/secondary factor for when W-L isn't conclusive to decide how we should match players or decide a winner.
At the end of each game, the winning player is expected to calculate their Victory Points; as the winner, you shall sum up the points cost of your figures that are not in your graveyard and also the point cost of your spells that are not in your graveyard. To clarify, you are allowed to add up points from figures in your summoning reserve as well as the points from spells still remaining in your library and enchantments attached to figures on the battlefield, because those are not in your graveyard! All figures score their full value even if those figures only have 1 life remaining; this goes for Planeswalkers, too! For squads that have at least one of their figures destroyed, use their PPF cost (that smaller number at the bottom right of the army card) to determine the value of each of the remaining figures in that squad. Losing players always get 0 as their Victory Points value in the games they lose, even if they forfeit the game before all of their figures are summoned/destroyed. Any winning player that does not track their Victory Points for a game will be given 10 as the Victory Points value for that game. Additionally, all byes are worth 10 Victory Points.
3. Participants are expected to complete their matchups bi-weekly; players have two weeks from matchup announcements to complete their game and confirm results with TD. The winner is required to fill out a VERY short form with the results of the game. It will ask to identify the winner of the game and the number of points that player has remaining outside of the spell and figure graveyard. Any pairing of players that does not have at least one of them either communicate with TD or submit game results to TD before the end of the two weeks will receive losses for that game. TD will post all players' W-L and Victory Point records at least bi-weekly.
4. If you haven’t already, please familiarize yourself with setting up and playing AotP on Tabletop Simulator! Contact us on the Discord if you would like to learn, test armies, chat, anything AotP!
5. Signups to close at 11:59 PM Eastern on 9/17, so I can review things that weekend. Tourney to begin on 9/19.
Sign up here! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1...rxjefU8WKIO4PZHmHnffrJYw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Entry fee: Nothing!
Prize: Bragging rights and endless praise of the rest of us plebs! Optional post-tourney Youtube interview/chat with me because I love talking AotP!
Finally: Have fun, and may the best gentleplaneswalker win! I will consider a team (2v2, AotP is VERY interesting with teams) tournament in the future, but only based on the numbers that participate in this tourney! I look forward to playing, let me know if you have questions, advice, or if one of my links are borked!
