Grishnakh’s Customized Terrain - Part VIII - Water Jungle Plants
It's been a while since I posted anything new and it now looks as if some of the stuff I've been working on has become obsolete. Oh well, I'm glad Hasbro is making the Jungle Tree set, less work on my part. I thought I'd at least put up some shots of the two finished tress that I've done so far. The rest of the tress that I had planned to do I'm putting on hold until I get my hands on Hasbro's Jungle. Just so you'll know these are aquarium plants pulled off of a plant matt that most larger pet stores carry. I then put down some self hardening clay onto a spare glyph, added a real rock (from my garden) into the clay to give it some weight and to make it look cool, and then pushed the aquarium plant into the clay. After it dried I painted the clay and the sides of the glyph green and then added flock in the same color as my flocked hex tiles. This is really no different than the technique that a lot of Warhammer 40k terrain builders have used to create their jungles. The only difference being mine are on hexes. I have worried about the "aquarium-ish" look of these but the Hasbro trees, to me, have the same "look" as well so I guess I should not let it bother me too much. Another difference I might note is that I have been building my terrain on tiles that you place on top of your already built battlefield much the same as the Heroscape Pine Trees. I find this technique much easier to build a battlefield with. The way Hasbro has decided to approach their Jungle trees and plants is to place them on top of hex tiles. This means, if you want your plants to look as if they are growing out of the ground, you have to plan their placement more carefully. Otherwise they will all be up on one hex high "mounds". I can understand their reasoning here, this is so the terrain can be "locked into" a battlefield and not be knocked around (as well as probably cheaper for them to produce). However this never really happens with my placed on terrain or their pine trees and I secretly wish they had approached the jungle trees the same way. Oh well, it's a small quibble. I might make more of these after I get my hands on the new tree set just as a cheap way to fill in the rest of the setting. They are really simple to make and I'm sure in the long run mine will cost a lot less than theirs. Thanks alot for showing everyone how to do this to their terrain. I just finished painting/flocking the rock/sand from just one master set, along with mossy ruins i found on multiple others' threads. I'm going to finish the grass first thing in the morning and build a cool looking map take to pics to post here for yeh. Thanks a bunch Grishnakh. You are an inspiration to us all.

Firstly,Grish....Love your work! I used the flocking step by stepper to do my tiles also.I changed the color slightly on the green, but all in all customizing is to your own taste, hence "custom". Love the water edge tiles too...
