Re: Custom Reviews
I love Doom's Mental Shield and Elaborate Pit Trap powers. (It was Elaborate Death Trap when it was sent to me for ERB and I loved it then too.)
I even love Mystic Power Drain. However. I think that it's more iconic for Rogue and I wonder what's beinng planned to differentiate her. Will she drain powers permanently? |

Re: Custom Reviews
We haven't planned Rogue yet - the idea of draining life and stealing powers is definitely iconic for her, though, so doing a power for her that's similar to this one but different will certainly be a challenge.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Custom Reviews
Here is what seems odd to me about ELABORATE PIT/DEATH TRAP
-what kind of trap teleports somebody 4 spaces? -it would seem an elaborate trap would do more than just inflict 1 wound So you believe that Hard Counters should exist in C3G? I could see people being ticked off that their Posion Ivy, Puppet Master, and Mad Hatter are worthless since their opponent's figures all have mental shields |

Re: Custom Reviews
Mental Shield is a hard counter to Psychic Defense X as well. I see hard and soft counters as all part of the wonder of the rock, paper, scissors aspect of the game.
The 4 space teleportation all in the name of a single wound is what the "elaborate" part is about. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Custom Reviews
Not to end the DOOM discussion but I figured I would include a figure that I used recently that I was underwhelmed by:
First, though, here is a figure with an awesome design: ![]() Here is the figure that seemed kind of blah to me: ![]() **The 1st 2 powers are identical which is expected with Green Lanterns. It is the 3rd one that seems Blah to me since they are so similar. Hal-Take an extra turn with a D20 Roll Guy-Take an extra turn with a Wound/Marker I am sure that both are thematic, but with GL's having the 1st 2 powers identical it is kind of disappointing for the 1 power that differentiates them to be so similar (taking an extra turn). |

Re: Custom Reviews
I would agree that Guy's design isn't the most inspired I've ever LDed. Honestly, after Hal, it was just tough to top things. That's why I'm glad Spidey LDed the other two human GLs, because he really helped bring very different flavor to them.
I would say, though, that despite the on card similarities, I really feel the two play fairly differently. There's some risk/reward on Hal, but Guy's got crazy levels of risk/reward on him. The D20 power use is a no brainer. Taking the wound for Guy to go again isn't. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Custom Reviews
Yeah they do play differently since Hal is more luck oriented and encourages you to take more wounds early on. I was more just kind of unexcited when I 1st played guy that it was another turn based power.
That being said, I have almost 0 knowledge of guy so can't really suggest what would be better. |

Re: Custom Reviews
He's definitely a brash, take no prisoners, daredevil type. Hal sort of has the whole "fearless" thing that we represented on the card, and since Guy is kind of that hyperbolized, playing off of Hal's power but taking it to larger extremes (and penalizing Guy for it more to represent how his methods often backfire) seemed like a good move.
Ultimately, I've accepted that if we want to do a universe of literally thousands of characters, the designs aren't always going to feel incredibly different and unique every time. Sometimes they're going to have to be variations on a theme. Guy does bring a different cost level and a slightly different play style, though, so I think he's a nice addition, even if lightning didn't strike twice with him after Hal. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

My Guide to Customs
I've already reviewed several customs in the linked thread above, so I'll just post the link for those interested (the reviews are in Chapter 2.1.3 - 2.3, plus I've reviewed some of my favorite maps in Chapter 3.5). Hopefully, this thread will include some positive reviews as well.
