Re: Glenns Customs (Main Base)11/10/09

Wow! This is some super creative stuff Glenn. Even though Ormus has 'Techno Hatred' printed on his card, I still think this is pretty freakin sweet...

The one thing (and the only thing) I don't care for is the gore....

It just seems to detract from the overall tastefullness of the piece....

Great job though...

I'm one sick puppy Ormus. I couldn't help it.
Thanks for the compliment though. I asked someone
who posted on the site many times a while back if gore
was ok. He told me that he has seen decapitations and
what not before so I took it a step further.
I'm a big horror movie fan.

Hmmm now you got me thinking though. Maybe it is a little too extreme
for Heroscapers. Its not just a simple cut off head. Should I take down the pics with the gore?

Whoa, there Glenn!!! I don't think those pics are inappropriate at all, I don't think, nor was I saying to you that they should be taken down! And I don't think you're a sick puppy either... And never let someone second guess your art (especially me).... Most of mine own customs have alot of sexuality in them, sometimes just inneundo and symbolism, but lots of times its pervasive...and alot of people viewing these customs(mostly not online people) make comments that they are 'perverted' or that I 'objectify women', so on. But all great art has something that shocks the id, and thats what makes it great...so with that said....My prior post was not referring the offensiveness of the gore in your piece...I meant that the custom as a whole rocks!::: Layout, paint job, consistency, theme, everything...It has an officialesque feel to it...until you see the blood and dead dudes...which, if thats what you wanted :thumbs up:

Great job again...

Re: Glenns Customs (Main Base)11/10/09

Ormus,
I know you were not suggesting that I was a sick puppy, I just know that I am. Lol. I say it smiling though. I totally understood what you meant, it just got myself second guessing if the piece was appropriate for this site. I was not second guessing whether the gore was necessary. I'm trying to portray a brutal battle on Alpha Prime.
I know it is up to the administrators what is or is not appropriate for this site. Heroscape is a game for ages 8 and up and someone might not want their kids seeing a guy with his guts hanging out. If I'm told its inappropriate I already have backups of 4 of the photo's that I history brushed with CS4. I'm good with that program and you can't even tell I touched them up. By the way I'm a fan of your customs and do not think that they degrade women at all. You and many of the other creators on this site that have been doing this longer than me have all greatly inspired me. Keep up the good work.
Glenn

Re: Glenns Customs (Main Base,Added play rules)

The shape of the whole piece was the packaging styrofoam for a PS3 or a stereo receiver. I only made a few cuts to the original shape. Then I shaved off a thin layer of the foam with a knife to try and hide its tiny circular texture. Then I sealed it and painted it.
Its a real pain trying to paint over the hot glue I used for the fake conduit. Because of that I used a hair dryer with hot and cold settings. Then I alternated drying hot to cold so I could work faster. It takes a few
coats of acrylic paint to cover up the thin beads of glue.

Re: Glenns Customs

glenn's no slouch. Nice work!

By the way, I was looking at the toxic waste dumping site, and I was wondering if you'd consider adding some age and rust to the spill pipe, and maybe a drizzle of spill? Hot glue drips?

Just a thought!

Re: Glenns Customs

Very good idea. I could do something like that quick too and then get back into more medieval looking customs. I made the wooden fence ( #5 ) in the 1/10 Speed Custom contest. I made it all out of Super Sculpey and will post a tutorial soon with "as I made" pics.
Your no slouch either buddy! Happy scaping
