On a roll of 14 or above, the figure may Attack as usual Figures within 6 clear-sight spaces of Gigantus must re-roll the d20 at the end of every round. Then give the angry flower a Defense of, say, 2 and lots of Lives. It'll be treacherous to get to him, best to send a heavy-hitter, and fun to tear into him once you get there. |

Re: Glenns Customs ( Plant Monster 3/12/09)
Karl with a k -
Read the post, thanks a lot dude. Spiteofthedice- I like that, I'll take it. It makes more sense to roll for straight up wounds or death with a character like this. After all he could chomp a Jotun in half in a bite. But were you suggesting that the player entering the attack zone rolls for his own damage then continues to roll until they no longer receive damage ? I really want to chomp Raelin, or anything with wings. But I'm totally going to roll with this idea maybe 9 life as to not make him too ridiculous. Cost 220 ? Scottishlad, Thanks for the compliment Sonlenahand- Yah maybe only 2 defence dice or else no one would let me play it. |

Battle on Alpha Prime Terrain
I recently received my Wave 9 set via UPS! Oh yeah! Upon
arrival I had to get a last minute game going and what better place to have the battle than my Alpha prime terrain. It was assembled quickly because I was pressed for time, but when the tiles are stacked according to color this terrain really pops out. The clumps of black fish terrain bushes give a player the same advantage as jungle terrain (can not move through). All small single or double leaf bushes are for aesthetics only and are passable. If there is a tiny piece of asteroid in the middle of a hex you spend 2 moves to (hop) over it. The spiked rocks are LOS blockers and are 6 hexes high. The rubble pile and hot asteroid may be flown grappled or leaped over only. There are other measurements for the other fortifications but on to the crafting that this section is for discussing. First off a nice perspective view of the terrain. You may notice the small fort from a past customs contest. It was made from a DVD player's packaging foam, glitter glue and paint. Fairly simple. The rubble pile was made from smaller strips of the same foam glued together then spray painted for a molten effect. Then it was painted with Acrylic metallic colors. ![]() Next is an overview of the whole battlefield. ![]() You can see below some of the first tiles I created for the set underneath the Kyrie army. They were spray painted a dark blue(Krylon plastics spray paint) then I made a hex stencil and moved it along each tile giving them small spray with metallic regular spray paint. This allowed me to make many tiles fairly quick, but I later found drybrushing to give a more professional look. ![]() A closer view of the rubble. The silverish tiles growing the small bushes were sprayed in the plastic blue and drybrushed with acrylic silver. ![]() New wave 9 figures getting ready for a charge. In the back there is a broken transformer made from an electrical relay and other scraps. The terrain here was sprayed and or drybrushed copper tones. ![]() I tried to make the terrain look completely enriched with metals. I used a few gold tones here that all came with the same paint set. ![]() My fiancee was Sujoa here and she got taken out by our new Dwarf! Though she kept her Mohican Tribesman untill the end and wound up winning the game. Anyways you can get a better idea of how I achieved a glowing effect on the asteroid here. By painting the brightest colors inthe center of the holes and drybrushing darker ones outside. The asteroid was carved from those porous styrofoam balls you find at teaching or craft stores. They are usually used to model planets in solar system displays. ![]() And one last perspective view. ![]() This is still a work in progress. I actually want to build another asteroid with a type of heat recovery boiler vessel over it. The steam would drive a turbine that would generate power to a small supercomputer facility I'm working on. Well, working on and off is more like it. I'm sure everyone knows how it is. Customs creation comes in waves just like our figures. I hope everyone likes it so far. Happy scaping. Glenn |

Re: Glenns Customs ( Alpha Prime 7/28/09)
I have to say that is some of the most amazing looking custom terrain I have ever seen. It is simply amazing to look at.
+ Rep for the quality! "Dethklok has summoned a troll. That's impossible there is no such thing as trolls. Then how do you explain the dead unicorns..." |

HOLY SHNIKEYS!!!! That Alpha Prime terrain is amazing! You gotta post a tut on them or make and sell 'em. (Like Liefkicker) I'd buy 'em.

Re: Glenns Customs ( Alpha Prime 7/28/09)
Thanks everyone, I guess your worst critic is always yourself.
I actually was upset that I didn't drybrush everything when it was finished. But the spraypaint really moves things along. I thought I went over pretty much how I made everything in the thread. Anyone with some paint can do it really. most of the structural pieces were already shaped how they appear. A DVD players packaging screams custom terrain . Just trim them down a bit and paint them. Hot glue some scrap pieces by the edges and thats it. Oh yeAH also important is to put a thin coat of vaseline on the edges of the hexes with a q-tip after all the paint dries. Well, thats if you decide to paint the sides of the hexes like I did. Otherwise they will be difficult to get apart. |

Glenns Customs ( Alpha Prime Main Base)
The shape of the structure was for the most part already as is . I think it was a part of someone's PS3 packaging. I got it from the big trash bin in the basement of my building as usual.
I shaved off most or the little circle thingies in the foam, shaped it, and coated it with some school glue gel. ![]() Its slightly higher than fourteen hexes on the rooftop. I embedded a double hex in the foam so I could put a painted ladder there later. ![]() Some transition huh? Sorry for lack of more production pics but I got in the zone and just kept going I'll explain something else before each photo. ![]() The hexes on the roof are exactly aligned with the hexes that would be underneath them. I did this by mounting single hexes to a few corners of the structure to hold it in place. Then I marked the roof and pushed hexes in the foam. Now its fully compatible with scape rules! Line up the footing hexes and you have lined up the roof! ![]() The electrical conduits linking everything are beads and strips of hot glue! I love the way it came out. It looks more organic rather than just putting some lego pieces or something on the sides. It also easier. It does take some patience to paint though and I recommend using a hair dryer to speed up coats. ![]() The .50 cal is shaped blue polystyrene (pink works too) clear beads for camera's on top,old radio antenna for the barrel, and hot glue once again for wires and texturing the barrel. The ladder is an official ladder painted copper to blend in. ![]() I could not resist. I ripped up army guys you buy in those bags of 30 or so. They are the same scale as Heroscape figures. Intestines and brain matter done with hot glue. The spikes are toothpicks wrapped in you guessed it, hot glue. ![]() On the roof is a custom figure. He is a repainted Mage Knight Blade Golem I call Major Buzzsaw. Lame I know. I'm all about the cheese. ![]() My favorite picture. All the walls inside the base are covered in black or blue glitter and scrap electronic parts. The LCD screen is custom. I printed a simple interface in photoshop and matted it with clear plastic and a piece of tracked rubber. ![]() A closeup of the computer with different lighting. The lights are little submersible floral lights. I love them! I even made a few towers out of paper towel rolls to hold a few as a light pole. The final pics I will post of Alpha Prime terrain with be of the Main Base and custom LED Tower lit night game. I will remove all but one of original Alpha Prime pics at this time because the project will be complete and it saves space on the thread. ![]() Finally an overhead view. When lighting a night game with mini LED's it helps to have a regular light in the room that you can leave on, but dim a little. This way all the colors you spent so much time dry-brushing don't disappear. ![]() That's all for now. The next time I play a game with be The Siege On Alpha Prime scenario in all its LED lit glory. Then I am quitting on Alpha Prime to move on to other customs. Maybe a bridge or something. The whole base was painted using acrylic paints mostly metallic colored. I used all the regular dry-rushing methods you can learn about in the forums. I don't recommend coating your pieces with school glue gel. I find now that it is too flexible, it won't break but it can chip your paint if you bump it too hard. The veteran custom terrain makers have good advice for sealing foam in their threads.
