Re: Belvidere, IL Spring Free Play/ Tournament

I'll bring Burial Marsh.

Format wise, any thoughts on Reverse the Whip?

Thanks for bringing Burial Marsh. I will cross that off my list.

I don't know much about Reverse the Whip, but if you send me more info I will check it out. Also, if other people want to play this format let me know, and it will be done.

I can bring Fossil and Fulcrum.

I've never played RTW before, but I'd be willing to.

Re: Belvidere, IL Spring Free Play/ Tournament

Reverse the Whip Activation: A combat die will be rolled before each battle. Skull/Symbol = normal battle, Shield = Reverse the Whip! (play your opponent's army for this round).

The idea is that you want to bring a rather unique or difficult army, one that's not too easy to beat, but can be beat since you have a 1 in 3 chance of playing against it each battle. It also lets people play with units they don't own, which can be a lot of fun.

Killercactus held a tourney last December where they used Reverse the Whip (his battle report is here).

This sounds very cool. There are so many figures that I don't see played, so this could change things up. If everyone supports this format, it will be done. Thanks for sending me the info.

Would we do Reverse the Whip in conjunction with three strikes your out? because that sounds like it would be awesome. Personally I'm fine with ether format, but if we do reverse the whip I would be in favor of 450 points to coincide with the GenCon main event.

That would be awesome. If I get a lot of feed back for both formats in one tournament it will be done. It will be a 450 point army to prepare for GenCon. I think we can have a final vote the week of the event.

Re: Belvidere, IL Spring Free Play/ Tournament

How would Reverse the Whip work with the three strikes format? If you lost a game against someone who was using your army because of RTW, would you not use that army again?

Re: Belvidere, IL Spring Free Play/ Tournament

Bump!

Any thoughts on either format? RTW or Three Strikes?

EDIT: The Three Strikes format encourages building the strongest army possible; three different ones, but we'd still see some of the strongest units repeated. Reverse the Whip would encourage use of some of the less common units, ones that wouldn't see competitive play otherwise.

After reading your message, I am leaning towards RTW format. You have made go points on the variety of armies that could show up due to this format.

As if today, I would like to hear more opinions on this matter. It is looking like it will be a RTW tournament. I will give it a few more days before I make the final announcement. Thanks for posting your opinions they have been helpful in making this tournament fun for all.
