I have started a new job and it is a strange job. It actually shouldn’t be a strange job; it’s an office and you’d think offices were the same everywhere. I seem to have landed in a bizarre place- perhaps that’s why there was a vacancy there in a city where there are no jobs?

On my first day I was shown to my cubical and abandoned. Really. No one came to tell me what to do; I was assigned no jobs or training. Fortunately for me I am never bored so I began writing on the computer. Eventually, in the afternoon, someone noticed me and gave me some menial job which took twelve minutes. The whole first week was like that.

But I am a fool, you know. Perhaps I should have been happy with that. Isn’t that what I’ve always wanted, free time? But no, I was frustrated- I have this ridiculous need to be of use.

We have been playing almost every day now- a newer game, a three on three 750 point game where we control a small 250 point group on each side.

We’ve been making smaller maps too. We still like big games, but it’s the end of the school year and there is much homework and studying and the new job leaves me tired at the end of the day. This game is long enough to be fun but short enough to end before we get too sleepy.

We either play a fight to the death or put out three or four Brandars- the victory condition being you must have a figure on each simultaneously to win.

My younger son has been using the forces of Arc again- they are a human kingdom that worship their elite cavalry. Their renowned blood thirsty leader- Suri of Arc- can give two Arc army cards an additional move turn, making the cavalry extremely far reaching.

Well I have found another job but it’s kind of sucky. It’s more hours for less pay- not exactly ideal, but at least there will be food on the table.

In preparation (my first day of work is next Monday) I have been examining my budget. Obviously some things are going to have to go, and one of the frills is Scape hunting.

I certainly enjoyed perusing Scape while it was in the stores and even after it was discontinued it has been fun chasing it down- making offers, swaps and yard sailing yard sales. But I guess that’s done now.

How many times have I asked myself “do we really need more?” I have noticed a lot more for sale lately, but it is starter stuff- RotV, SofM and castles. And they go for next to nothing because no serious collector or player needs them and there just aren’t very many new folks getting into it.
