This month we've got a bonus interview! Aren’t we thankful Einar’s puppy was lured back to the site by an unrelated text-message from scorpiusx. Gratefully there was still plenty of time for his 15 minutes of fame. I’ve got his interview right here - and now “everyone is happy”.

'Scaper-of-the-Month #75 is...

Einar's puppy

PROFILE:
Who are you, really?
Luke Thomas Schwartz, your typical kid from Jersey.
How old are you?
17
What is your occupation?
I don't have a real job per-say, but I do play in a few bands. We basically just do tiny like gigs to crowds of fifty or less people, but that's my source of income essentially. Being a minor is really quite nice.
What other interests do you have?
I love music. I play a couple different instruments (sax, guitar, bass, I'm learning piano) decently, and I write a lot of my own stuff. Pretty much any style of music is fair game for me, as long as there's a real drummer involved. Canned drums just bug me.
I also really like movies and theatre. Any good visual representation of story really.
What’s another board game you enjoy and why?
I always used to love Stratego, simple as it is. There is something in knowing that the guy your opponent thinks he is attacking is really just a bomb... and there is something even better in seeing his face when he realizes.
Who, or what, is you avatar and how did you come up with your username?
My avatar is part of this painting by Marc Chagall. I just really like art, and the color scheme on this piece works really well with the site's layout on default mode.
My name... so I don't think it's very much of a secret that I completely hate my name, and I wonder pretty often what was in the water when I picked it. I was like twelve. I was stupid. Most people on the site who refer to me now just use Ep.
Where did your long and strange title, My Mom Loves Onacara, And So Do I, come from?
Haha so back in like *mumbleyearmumble* someone on the site was talking about how much they dislike Onacara's...brash introduction tactics to the new trolls. Having met the guy at a tournament or two, I stood up for him saying that I didn't think we was a bad guy in person. Then I felt the need to add that my mother, also at this tournament, was a good judge of character and didn't feel like he was an awful guy either.
So yeah, my mom loves Onacara, and so do I.
HEROSCAPE:
When and how did you first get into HeroScape?
I remember seeing the commercials on TV in 04. They made me very happy. I bought the game. It made me very happy. I found the site a few years later. It made me very happy.
What is your favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?
It's so simple. I hate being stuck playing something and thinking to myself WHAT DO I DO??? Heroscape presents itself simply and gracefully, and just gives you so much room to mess about with the rules. The movement is simple (no measuring or that crap) the attacking is simple (can you physically see them? LoS accomplished) and the powers are worded excellently 99% of the time.
The game should be called "Having Fun: for Dummies"
To whom is your allegiance and why?
I like Einar. Counter striking is just thematic as anything and I love it. Also, I never liked the wait then shoot tactics of the 4th mass, so the redcoats gave me an alternative. And Zelrig blew my mind when he first came out. All I had to do was play him against 10 squads of zombies on Fire Isles.
Who are your favorite heroes and why?
Unique: Morgrimm. I don't know how, but I can usually hit his special a good 5-6 times a game. That's a lot of dead rats.
Uncommon: I love the concept, but not the execution. I can honestly say that there aren't any uncommon heroes I like playing with. Fen Hydra is kind of neat, but clunky as anything.
Common: Isamu...what? He shoes up in every single army. It doesn't get more common than that.
What are your favorite squads and why?
Unique: Kozuke Samurai. While not actually...good, they remind me of all those samurai movies where they would rather charge in and die by the sword than retreat.
Common: Microcorp. Play them on Turret Rocks. They're just so cool, from the sculpts to the ultra-thematic abilities, to the fact that they make water, which I always found annoying, easy to play in, I have nothing negative to say about these guys. Sure, they're expensive. I'm a pro with that D20. They're sticking around for a while.
What is your favorite Special Ability and why?
Deadly Strike. It's all or nothing, but it can pay out in big ways.
What is your favorite map and why?
Mole Hills. It was the first BoV map I played on, and I love how much height there is. I like a nice quick bloodbath, and that map facilitates it.
Which one of your own map creations would you recommend for us to try?
This one, Rattlesnake Swamp. Is it completely balanced? No. Does the hive not really fit into the spot I put it? No it doesn't. Still, I like this map a lot, and I've played it a lot. It's fun. It's fast. You can never see anything with LoS. It's a good melee battler.
COMMUNITY:
What do you enjoy most about HeroScapers.com?
CoN's. I like writing, and I love mysteries. We're almost aloof from the rest of the site, but we've got our own tight knit community. It's fun.
Describe your favorite HeroScape moment.
There are a lot...probably winning my first tournament. I remember getting to like the the fourth out of fifth match and somebody telling me that I had a shot to win it all. After that the pressure was ON, and throughout the day people just kept getting better and better. It was hard, and it made me feel good.
Also, any match I've played against Tom or Clancambell's son Xanth. That kid is such a good sport, and I'm proud to be a member of the beaten by Xanth club. In my defense, I did think using elf wizards was a good idea. Kid still beat me be a lot. =P
Is there any member of HeroScapers.com you’d really like to play against?
Matthias. I love Melee myself, and I always wondered how a real pro would use them. I mean, in the NJ/MD/PA area we have some great players, but we don't go as hard as the MW guys. We usually play a lot...friendlier? Geeze...it feels weird saying that since I haven't been to a tournament in years. I need to get back on the horse.
And Onacara, because he said he wanted someone to pick him in the comments on the last Scaper of the Week Month.
UNIT DEBATE:
Which unit would you say is better: Laglor or Sir Gilbert?
Gilbert. Laglor is cool and all, but who wants to sit still? I love moving, I like using terrain. I like seeing 100% of the board being used. Gilbert sends his knights everywhere.
What two units would you like to see in the next Unit Debate?
I've not kept up on the debates to know who has been in it already, but the Dwarven Heroes (Morgrimm and...the dude with the eyepatch and hammer. I'm blanking on a name) would be good.
LIE DETECTOR:
Tell us two true things about yourself and one lie.
1. I've met Steve Vai in person.
2. I've never driven to a tournament that was under an hour away.
3. I love Deathwalker 9000.
THREE FUN FAVORITES:
I hate picking a number one for anything. IMO, it comes down to how I feel that day. So here are a few for each.
Favorite band:
Death Cab for Cutie, Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, and Elliott Smith. Canadian/NW indie music from the late 90's and early to mid 00's is my fave. Specific enough?
Favorite food:
Bread. What? Don't look at me like I have two heads. Bread makes every food better. Chille? Get some cornbread with that. Kebab? Put it in a pita! Steak? Make a sandwich out of it. Bread's just so versatile.
Favorite TV show:
Arrested Development. I loved the constant continuity nods they would make to previous episodes. Too many shoes exist in a bubble where one episode is forgotten in the next.
CLOSING:
What message do you have for the ‘Scaper community?
Have a nice day. ^_^

Nice interview.
I'll say number one is a lie, because everyone loves Deathwalker 9000, and you northeast people don't have to drive very far for anything. |

Nice interview, but who was the person he chose as the next interviewee?

@Shockma: Funny, it worked before.
@ABOMINATION: Einar's puppy was skipped over because it was believed that he was unreachable for interview. When MegaSilver handed over the job to me he told me to choose another 'Scaper (I picked him). After the interview was posted, lo and behold, Einar's puppy showed up. I felt it was only fair that he got his time to shine as well. MegaSilver has already chosen the next 'Scaper-of-the-Month, so Einar's puppy misses out on that duty. |
